These days, many people are eating organic foods and living a more organic lifestyle.  So many or our customers are inquiring:  Should I use an organic fertilizer?  There are many benefits to switching to organic when it comes to your lawn.  In general, natural organic fertilizer helps to complete the circle of life of your lawn by improving the soil’s microbiological activity while providing natural sources of nutrients to help keep your lawn healthy.  This cycle will encourage your lawn to develop a thick, deep root system and beautiful green color.

There are countless immediate benefits of organic fertilizer.  First, the burn potential is low, as opposed to traditional fertilizers which tend to dry out lawns.  Whereas chemical products treat only the plant itself, our products feed the soil, the root, and the plants, therefore encouraging a deeper root system.  Also, plants’ immune systems become stronger with organic fertilizer as a result of building up the plants’ walls with chitin.  Other fertilizers actually thin the cell walls, making them more prone to disease and fungus.  Lastly, organic fertilizer Increases and improves the microbial activity in your lawn, creating a porous atmosphere for the roots, which allows water and nutrients to permeate.  Synthetic products, on the other hand, discourage microbial activity which robs the plants’ ability to retain water by rendering soil impervious.  Just as organic foods can be better for your body, organic fertilizers have similar benefits for your lawn.

Aside from benefiting your lawn in particular, organic fertilizers help keep our environment healthy, as well.  With New Jersey continuing to take the lead on issues related to fertilizer and pesticides, the time to start considering organic based fertilizers has never been more eminent than now.  This past summer, the state passed a package of four bills designed to limit the amount of phosphorus in fertilizers as well as the runoff from impervious surfaces.  With this approval New Jersey is one of the first states in the nation to enact aggressive legislation to control nutrient pollution from fertilizer runoff.  By using organic fertilizer now, you will be ahead of any legislation that begins to change the way we all fertilize lawns.
